I would like to talk to you today about a
Heavenly Checkup. We would not put off
longer than a year or two without a
physical checkup. Our car needs a check-
up every twenty thousand miles, or so.
Even our pets get shots and checked
often.
But as God’s child, did you ever have a
Heavenly Checkup? We all need this
checkup from time to time to reveal our
spiritual condition. King David, the
Psalmist, recognized his need for a
spiritual checkup when he cried out in
Psalm 139, “O Lord, thou have searched
me and known me, Thou knowest my
down sitting and my uprising. Thou
understand my thoughts afar off.” He
charts our path as a believer. He knows
what we are thinking before we say it.
I talked to an older lady recently. She
said, “I cannot understand the robbing
and looting in our stores.” She shared, “I
took something without paying when I
was small. Mom made me take it back
and it still bothers me.” God heals our
broken and contrite spirit. He will follow
our path today, yet he has already gone
before us. Are we willing for the Great
Physician to know our spiritual condition
and our attitudes? As King David prayed,
we, too, can pray the prayer of David.
“Father, search me and know my heart,
try me and know my thoughts, and see if
there be any wicked way in me and lead
me in the way everlasting.”
Amen.
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24 KJV
