Out of the Fire

Under penalty of death

They refused to consent

To Nebuchadnezzar’s decree

Which would break God’s commands

Learned from their youth

Have no other gods before Me

To graven images thou shalt not bow

Now blessed to be in authority

Jewish leaders over Babylon!

In a foreign land

How could it be?

Tempted to disobey privately

Faced with a choice

Three had to choose

King or Creator?

Government allegiance or faith obedience

Earthly prosperity or seeming finality

Life or death decision

How would you choose?

A weaker person would have

Rationalized compliance

Think of the good we could do

Let’s do as the king commands

It’s the law of the land

Let’s bow our knees but not our heart

Where’s Daniel at?

Compromise is the best policy

Give and take

Bend and sway

Let’s live to fight another day

But they didn’t bend

And their example was not excused

Summoned to his presence

Given another test of obedience

A public test of allegiance

No sitting on the fence

But they retained their stance

Their conviction meant conviction

And away they went

Now in a rage

The king offended the Lord God Almighty

Can you believe, he actually said,

“And who is that God

that shall deliver you out of my hands?”

This set up a Mount Carmel event

So into the furnace they went

Seven times hotter

It killed the soldiers

The king thought it was over

But God took up the challenge

What God can rescue from your hand?

I’ll give you a show!

Then you will know

I AM THAT I AM

The beginning and the ending

When Nebuchadnezzar looked in

He saw 4 men walking within

Unhurt unbound unconcerned walking around

And the 4th is like the Son of God

Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego come out!

So in obedience they walked out

Without singe or smoke not bound

No hurt was found

The fire held no power

Nebuchadnezzar proclaimed praise

He admitted his defeat

He issued a new law of the land that

Anyone who spoke against the great I AM

Would be torn limb from limb

His house made a garbage bin

And he promoted them

In the province of Babylon

So whatever the case

No matter the fire

He is with us

In and Out of the Fire

Be strong and courageous; don’t be terrified or afraid of them. For the Lord your God is the one who will go with you; he will not leave you or abandon you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 CSB

What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31 KJV

If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. Daniel 3:17-18 KJV

The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? Psalm 118:6 KJV

The Lord is the one who will go before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or abandon you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8 CSB

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Hebrews 13:5 KJV

Who needs to hear this?
