His Name Is John

What a record!

Prophesied of old

Eagerly awaited

Gabriel foretold

Your prayer is answered

He will be great and filled with the Spirit

He will go before and prepare the way

But how shall I know?

Don’t be dumb, you shall not speak

I am Gabriel

God’s company I keep

His name is John

He lived in the wilderness

He bucked the trend

Wine and strong drink did not enter in

With belted camel clothes

And a diet of honey crusted locust

He was focused

His name is John

For purpose

He was on mission

Baptism of repentance

For He is sent

He is the light

Make His path straight

Prepare the way

For humility

I am not He

Not worthy to untie His shoe

I need to be baptized by You

He must increase

I must decrease

On earth, I am older

Yet He is greater

Because I came later

I am a friend of the groom

This makes my joy complete

I am but a voice

Crying in the wilderness

He is the Lamb

For the forgiveness of sin

Be sure to follow Him

For courage

He showed no fear

Not afraid of pharisees or sadducees

Not afraid of soldiers or tax collectors

Not afraid of government legalese

What can they do to me?

I will not compromise

His name is John

For whom Jesus had highest regard

When John doubted

Jesus didn’t just respond

He healed many

Go tell John was His loving reply

The lame can walk

The blind can see

Lepers are cleansed

The deaf can hear

The dead are not

And the gospel is preached

Go tell John what you have seen

He ultimately lost his life

It’s not lawful

She’s not your wife

Quit doing evil in this life

His name is John

Jesus had highest regard

He was a shining lamp

There is none greater born of women

But in Heaven, the least is greater still

His Name Is John

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. John 1:6 KJV

For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he. Luke 7:28 KJV

For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb. And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God. And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. Luke 1:15-17 KJV
