Growing In Christlikeness

Nothing on earth could be more perfect

to loving parents than a newborn. But

imagine the heartache if that precious

baby remains a babe in body or in mind.

Angels rejoice in heaven over the spiritual

birth of one born into the family of God,

but what pain the Heavenly Father must

bear if that spiritual newborn remains an

infant. I feel that too many of God’s children

survive on little spiritual nourishment.

A few years ago, I was speaking in a revival

in another state. When the pastor and I

arrived where we were to receive our evening

meal, we were greeted at the door by our

host wearing a large apron and a scarf tied

round her head. I thought to myself, “This

lady has been in the kitchen all day” and I

was eager to enjoy her “good, southern

cooking.” I will not forget that evening when

she seated us at a small table and served us

a cola and a chocolate bar.

When I see a believer who has been in the

fellowship of our Lord for ten or twenty

years, often, I am sure they have been feeding

on less than a full meal at our Lord’s table.

We become open prey and spiritually anemic

as much as when we are physically underfed.

Our Lord’s pleasure is that we come and dine

with Him.

Father, strengthen our bodies with good

things, that our souls might be fruitful for

your glory.

Amen.

For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.  For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.  But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.  Hebrews 5:12-14 KJV
