I would like to talk to you today about
sugar spots. I did not know what they
were until I read about apples with
sugar spots. “It seems” explained a
veteran apple picker, “the more lenticles
on the apple, the sweeter it becomes.”
Lenticles, it turns out, were brown spots
that made the apple both ugly and sweet.
Tragic events in life can lead to blemishes
just like that.
The famous preacher, Dr D L Moody,
lost all his belongings in the Great
Chicago Fire. One of his children, as
well as all earthly possessions, perished.
Rev Moody continued to preach God’s
love when a friend inquired, “How can you
be so joyful when your life has been
touched by so much?” To which Pastor
Moody replied, “It never touched my heart.”
God’s children who have passed through
fires of trial will find joy and consolation
in his words.
A story is told of a young girl, an
orphan, praying for a family to adopt
her, but passed over each year for
younger children. During the annual
worship service, Mary was first to request
her favorite song, “No One Ever Cared for
Me Like Jesus.” If your life is blemished by
disappointment, allow your Heavenly
Father to produce sugar spots. They
may be grievous for the moment but
will make the believer more like our Lord.
Father, weeping may endure for the night,
but joy will come in the morning.
Amen.
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. Romans 15:13 KJV
