Who would you say is the wealthiest man
in the world? Two or three answers come
to mind. Then we remember that these
men recently died. Our answers betray
our conditioning. We automatically
equate riches with material prosperity.
In our standard for riches, we deem the
richest man is the one with the most
money. “Not so” declares God’s Word.
Saint Paul told Timothy to withdraw
himself from all who suppose that gain is
godliness. The Apostle is not speaking
against money. He is, rather, telling
Timothy how to be rich. And it boils down
to one word-Contentment.
The wealthiest man in Detroit would give
it all for good health. What a
transformation would take place in our
hearts if we could hear this simple
command. It would dissolve our ulcers
and make new creatures out of us. Can
you say with Saint Paul, “I have learned,
that in whatsoever state I am, therewith
to be content.” (Philippians 4:11) He was
saying that he had found in Jesus a
contentment that does not dim when put
down by his brethren.
Praise God for His blessings. Do not
complain or criticize about things with
which we have no control. Our unbelief
will close doors for the display of His
power in our lives. When we learn
confidence in God, we will have riches
that all the money in the world cannot
buy.
Father, teach me through faith to be the
richest person in the world.
Amen.
Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 1 Timothy 6:5-7 KJV
