Troubled Hearts

I would like to talk to you today about

troubled hearts; I suppose next to

Psalm 23, the most favorite words of

the Bible are “Let not your hearts be

troubled. If you believe in God, believe

also in me.”

Jesus first spoke these words of comfort

to his disciples as he was about to be

crucified. They did not need more facts.

They could not understand what had

already happened. Rather, he says, “Do

not let your hearts be troubled.”

He is the healer of hearts. He speaks the

right words when problems weigh heavy

upon the hearts and spirits of his children.

Jesus knew that John would bear up

under the strain. Yet he spoke words of

comfort. “Let not your hearts be troubled.”

Do not let your inner peace be disturbed

by outward circumstances. God gives

peace that enables the believer to remain

calm and to remain emotionally at rest

regardless of what is going on around him.

Accept His words of peace and comfort no

matter what your outward circumstances

may be today. He will speak the words that

cause inner upheavals to become peaceful.

His words of comfort are not to the

intellect but to the heart. With his words

he calms our fears. Accept His words of

comfort. “Let not your hearts be troubled.”

His words are for you today.

Father, dispel the darkness and gloom that

may be within our hearts right now, that we

may experience your peace.

Amen.

No one has greater love than this: to lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I do not call you servants anymore, because a servant doesn’t know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have heard from my Father. John 15:13-15 CSB
