I would like to talk to you today about
rising above disappointments. Life
sometimes robs us of loved ones, our
good names, health, and wealth. I, too,
have been disappointed many times. The
sparkle of life vanishes, and the joy of the
Lord disappears.
Jesus knew what it was to be betrayed by a
friend. The disciples thought that Christ
would set up an earthly kingdom where
James would be seated on the left hand
and John on the right hand of Christ. With
Jesus’ crucifixion and burial, dreams of an
earthly paradise vanished for the disciples.
Their eyes were now blinded by tears and
disappointment as they walked along the
Emmaus Road, recognizing Christ only as
He broke bread and said grace.
Surely, you have been disappointed by a
friend, or by the goals set for your life.
Surrender that hurt and resentment into
God’s hands. Allow your disappointments
to lift you to higher plains. Your fellowship
with Christ will deepen and your usefulness
in His kingdom’s plan will broaden.
Do not allow disappointments to destroy
your goals. They can expand them. Our
disappointments are God’s way to carry out
a plan greater than we have imagined. Our
reaction can determine our future. Have
faith that God is in control of every
situation. Faith can transfer disappointments
from an enemy to a friend.
Father, remind us today that you still walk
the Emmaus Road.
Amen
Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. Luke 24:25-27 KJV
