I would like to talk to you today about
Playing the Game of Life. Life is played in
two teams. We either play on the team of
Christ or on the team of Self. The world is
our stadium and the people watching are
our spectators. We all play on one of these
two teams.
Remember Sampson? He was
unconquerable on God’s team until he
broke vows with God and became weak
and defeated by the enemy. Saint Paul
also was a man who enjoyed sports. He
coached, “Let us run the race of life with
patience.” God wants His children to run
with patience. It has been said, “Life will
never be a one-hundred-yard dash for the
believer but a cross-country run.” And the
run stretches to sunset. When we do not
have the strength to go on and the race
becomes a struggle, remember that Christ
Jesus is the Captain of the Team.
Stories are told of the old eagles who
soared through battles and mountains
until their beaks became dull and useless.
Here, they sought out a type of rock
where they could rest until their beaks
became sharpened on the rock. Then,
they returned to the battle with the
strength of their youth. The strength of
the believer is the Lord. He is our Rock of
refreshing amid the battles. Call upon
Him and He shall renew your strength.
Father, amid the battle when we cannot
go on, encourage, and strengthen us with
new victories.
Amen.
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2 KJV
