I want to talk to you today about loneliness.
All of us at some time in our life will be
gripped by feelings of loneliness. Do not be
alarmed if you are one of them. A small child
feels it, and a teenager complains, “No one
understands me.” Older citizens grumble,
“No one wants to talk to me, nobody visits.”
Loneliness haunts from the cradle to the
grave. But the situation is not hopeless.
There is a cure for the lonely feeling, and
that is a personal relationship with Christ
Jesus. His promise to the believer, “I will
never leave you or forsake you.”
Fanny Crosby, the blind songwriter, could
have withdrawn easily into the shadows of
her handicap. Instead, she put her trust in
God and stepped out in joy and usefulness
available to his children. Loneliness gone,
she could write, “Blessed assurance, Jesus
is mine. Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine.”
Can you honestly say with the song writer,
“Jesus is mine?”
Without the fellowship of God, we are
spiritual orphans. God has placed the duty
of loving one another upon the believer.
Love expresses itself in a visit to the elderly,
a helping hand to those who grieve, a letter
to those separated from friends, a phone
call, or a gift. Reach out a hand of love and
comfort to someone living with the distress
of a lonely heart today.
Father, let your presence be our constant
companion in every situation.
Amen.
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. Hebrews 13:5-6 KJV
