I would like to talk to you today about
living up to your potential. William
Berkeley wrote, “There are two great
moments in a man’s life. The moment he
is born and the moment he discovers why
he was born.” Do you remember the Bible
story of Joseph? Life had certainly dealt
him unfortunate blows. Who could blame
him if he did not live up to his potential?
He was carried away against his will into
slavery, then into prison by a turn of
ironic events. Yet, we read in Genesis
“The Lord was with Joseph, and he
prospered.”
While Joseph was in prison, the Lord
was with him. Why? Joseph had established
a standard of excellence for himself. He
made the best of the situation. He looked
life squarely in the eye and refused to lose
sight of who he was and his purpose. Joseph
lived above reproach. He had no more
opportunities for “making it” than you or I
do. But he had created an atmosphere in
which God felt comfortable to live and move
and bless.
Joseph’s family was blessed because of his
life and those with whom he lived. Because
he knew his purpose for being here, Joseph
guarded his integrity. He allowed his
spiritual dimensions to distinguish him from
his enemies. Let this be your secret power
today. Determine God’s will in every
situation.
Father, thank you for the opportunity to
really know who I am today.
Amen.
No one has greater love than this: to lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I do not call you servants anymore, because a servant doesn’t know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have heard from my Father.
