I would like to talk to you today about
Living Hope. No man has returned from
beyond the grave to set our minds at ease
and erased our doubts. Christ told the
story of the Rich man and the Beggar. After
dying, the rich man cried out to God to
send someone to warn his five brothers
that death was not the end. There is life
beyond the grave. Christ makes that life
worth living.
If only the atheist had this hope. If only
the agnostic could be sure. Doctor D L
Moody, well known evangelist, and pastor,
once talked to a Brahm Priest about the
uniqueness of Christ. He quoted the words,
“I am the resurrection and the life.” The
priest replied. “I could say that I am the
resurrection and the life.” Moody replied,
“Yes, but could you get anyone to believe it?”
The famous artist, Doer, once tried to cross
a European border without a passport.
Guards demanded proof. “All kinds of people
claim to be this or that great one. I must have
proof.” Doer quickly sketched a likeness of
the border guard. There was no doubt he was
who he claimed to be. The Holy Spirit is our
living proof that Christ is who He claims to
be.
Who has seen the wind?
Not you nor I,
But when the bough bends low,
we know it passes by.
Who has seen the Holy Spirit?
Not you nor I,
But when a soul trembles,
we know it passes nigh.
The greatest proof which the believer has
to offer the skeptic is the life changed by
the power of Christ.
Father, make me living proof today that
you are the resurrection and life eternal.
Amen
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. 1 Peter 1:3-4 CSB
