I don’t mean to be a downer
But you need to know
There’s an impossible standard
Just suppose for sake of argument
That you were able to stay free from sin
Both in what you did and didn’t do
Misdeeds of commission and omission
Somehow escaped you
What you are missing is that the bar is so high
That our thoughtlife condemns us too
Jesus clarified that lust in the head
Is equal to adultery in bed
He also said that murder begins in the heart
That’s the tricky part
We have a sin nature
We can’t escape it
The virgin birth ensured that Jesus
Had no earthly father
Jesus bypassed the sin nature
Passed down from Adam to us
On our own it is an impossible standard
He lived the perfect life
Was sinless even in His thoughtlife
But Jesus did not sin yet he laid down His life
It was not taken from Him
He paid our debt willingly that He did not owe
His substitionary sacrifice
Imputes His righteousness and
Allows us to meet the requirement
Of the Impossible Standard!
And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. Romans 4:22-25 KJV
When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. Matthew 19:25-26 KJV
