Heavenly Possessions

Did you ever try to understand just what

being in Christ Jesus really means? To

be in Christ decides the Christian’s

position, privileges, and possessions.

To be in Christ is to be where He is, to

be what He is, and to share what He has!

Your present address is just the stopping

place on a journey. Yet, some gather

possessions here as though they were

staying forever. As believers, we are

instructed to set our affections on things

above, not on things of the earth. Too

many have the philosophy that we pass

this way only once, ‘and I am going to

enjoy it while I am here.’

On the other hand, I have seen a mother

bend and kiss the tiny face cradled in a

casket and to know for her that reunion

day could not come soon enough.  One

afternoon, when I pastored a church

in Kentucky, the funeral director and I

climbed a hill for a child’s burial. He

carried the small casket, and I carried

something to break the ground. It is no

wonder that our Lord tells us, “Love not

the things that are in the world, if any

man loves the world, the love of the

Father is not in him.

Father, teach me to set my affections on

heavenly possessions, and not on things

of the world.

Amen.

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:  But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:  For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.  Matthew 6:19-21 KJV
