I would like to talk to you about how to
have a Joyous Christmas. What questions
must have filled the mind of the Virgin
Mary during that angelic interview! She
was to bear a child, but not an ordinary
child. He was to be the son of God. What
bewilderment would fill her heart as she
pondered all these things. What faith she
needed!
And what about Joseph? God sent an Angel
to the young Carpenter. “Do not be afraid.”
What untold fears did he experience? We
only know that he was obedient. Willing
obedience on the part of Mary and Joseph
would bring unending joy to the world
through the birth of Jesus.
The Lord Jesus knew that their obedience
would bring us joy. Joy is God’s Christmas
gift to humanity, and it comes wrapped in
a person, Christ Jesus, when the angels
sang “Good tidings of great Joy.” They
were not singing of a future hope, but
something that was already present, and
would remain until the end of age. As
Christmas approaches, rejoice. Sing a
song with the angels and let nothing rob
you of his gift. It is already yours. ‘
Father, thank you for your son, Christ
Jesus, that all who believe in him might
have everlasting life.
Amen.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:10-11 KJV
