I would like to talk to you today about
Heavenly Companionship. While sorting
through old letters, I found an email that
I had received a few years ago from a very
dear childhood friend. She had closed the
letter with these words, “Perhaps I will
not always be alone.” This year, our
Christmas card came back. “Return to
Sender. Deceased.” I trust that today she
is in the arms of Jesus and no longer
alone.
Many people are alone, but not lonely,
because they have found companionship
with the Heavenly Father. While living in
this world, all of us, at one time or
another, are engulfed in loneliness. We
may feel helpless, but our Lord promises
in John 14:18 “I will not leave you as
orphans, I will come for you.”
Years ago, a well-known speaker told the
story of a man who rose in one of his
meetings and asked if he could say
something. “I went to New York for a
year. I begged on the streets for a living.
One day, I touched a man on the
shoulder, Mister, please give me a dime.
As he turned, I recognized it was my
father. And he recognized me even
though I had changed. Through tears he
spoke, ‘For eighteen years, I have been
looking for you, Son. All that I have is
yours.’”
God is like that. He is good. He is
waiting to fill every need. Trust in his
promise. You are never alone.
Father, fill the lonely one today who seeks
your love and your presence.
Amen.
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. John 14:16-17 KJV
