I would like to talk to you today about
having more faith. Christ and His
disciples were on the Sea of Galilee at
midnight. The storm raged and the
disciples feared for their lives when Christ
was awakened. He was more concerned
with the faith of the disciples than with
the storm. The wind and the waters would
obey Him, but he was concerned that
their faith would waver and fail.
At times, our faith becomes so dependent
on circumstances that Jesus becomes
concerned about our trust in Him. We
allow our faith to waver between human
trials and the Divine. Peter, James, and
John were fishers of the sea by trade, but
human skills failed them in the storm. No
matter how efficient, at times in our life
we will cry, “Master, do you not care that
we perish?” God’s love and strength is
still available to those who believe.
A story is told of a missionary in another
country concerning his courage while
facing the danger of bandits along the
way as he travelled alone. He replied, “I
am never alone. I depend on my Lord to
always walk with me.” Faith in the
existence of God involves faith in the
eternity of God. He can do no less for us
than He did for the early believers. Have
faith in His presence even when storms
and tears blur His presence.
Father, teach me to flee to the Rock that
is Greater than I in times of the storms at
midnight.
Amen.
And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? Mark 4:37-40 KJV
