I would like to talk to you today about
escaping our troubles. Have you ever
wanted to be free as a bird and wished
you had wings to fly away from all this
earth’s problems? David, the Psalmist
did. All his great wealth could not deliver
him out of his problems. When they
seemed more than he could bear, he cried
out to God, “Oh, that I had wings like a
dove. For then I could fly away and be at
rest.”
All of us are overwhelmed with feelings of
escape at one time or another. We
become discontented with ourselves, and
in our restlessness, we make foolish
decisions. Satan has a way of making
pastures on the other side of the fence
look greener. What great sorrow and
misery David experienced after his affair
with Bathsheba. When we are at our
weakest, Satan offers His destructive
substitutes. Jesus knows what
temptations we will face today.
When I was pastor, a member came to my
office and confessed, “Pastor, I feel so
ashamed. I have become involved with a
man, not my husband.” I offered to pray
that God would deliver her out of this
situation. “Oh, pastor, I am not ready to
do that!” At that point, I felt I could not
help her. Jesus’ hand is extended in every
situation with precious promise “Come
unto me all you that are heavy laden and I
will give you rest.”
Father, teach me to accept your
forgiveness that my burden might be
light.
Amen.
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV
