David Deliverer

Youngest of eight

Skilled at the sling

Ruddy to look at

Not seeming a king

Shepherd by lot

Outside so little

But God sees the heart

Anointed by Samuel

Filled with the Spirit

Skilled at the harp

Deliverer was tasked

Take bread, wine, and this goat please

You will take my armor

Should I decide to battle

Now play your harp

And satan will depart

Too little for battle

Deliverer was asked

Now take bread, cheese and corn please

And return a report back to me

How fares the enemy?

Discouraged by family

But chosen by God

Not scared of Goliath

But distressed by defiance

Deliverer was the real task

Goliath’s head to sever

From armor bearer to wearer

It wasn’t fitted or proven

Discarded, not needed

When the Spirit is moving

Armed with the Spirit, a staff and a sling

David advanced

Goliath stood no chance!

And his head was dispatched

David delivered more than mans’ plan

For God doesn’t save with sword or with spear

Yes, David was God’s man while awaiting

The Final Deliverer

Selah!

Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. 1 Samuel 17:45 KJV

And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: Romans 11:26 KJV

And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hands. 1 Samuel 17:47 KJV

Who needs to hear this?
