I would like to talk to you today about
burdens. Surely, no man is without
burdens. A story tells about a time when
the birds were without wings. Then, one
day God placed wings at their feet and
commanded them to pick them up. The
little birds did not want to carry the heavy
loads, but they loved the Lord, and in
obedience, they picked up the wings and
placed them on their backs. What the bird’s
thought was a great weight would enable
them to fly.
I suppose Abe Lincoln carried more burdens
than most will carry. His biography reveals
sorrow upon tragedy as he faced bankruptcy,
defeat in office, the death of his beloved son,
and the illness of his wife. Later, he became
mentally depressed. Yet, during his darkest
hour, the stars came out.
Our lives will have dark days. Could our
problems be a blessing in disguise? A
beautiful butterfly searched frantically for
the sweetness of the flower which had waved
in the field only yesterday. Now, it was cut
down and gone forever. The butterfly soars
above until it suddenly discovers the
fragrance of the overhead blossoms. Could
our disappointment be a door to
opportunities which we could not discover
until earthly attractions are removed?
Father, allow the burdens I bear today to lift
me to higher ground that I may discover your
heavenly provisions.
Amen
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33 KJV
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30 KJV
