A Joyful Marriage

Joyful Marriage

I would like to talk to you today about a

joyful marriage. If the joy of the Lord is

our strength, then strong marriages

should be filled with joy.  When a good

marriage loses its joy, it becomes weak

and vulnerable. Husbands and wives

who no longer laugh and play together

lose their love for each other.

I see Christian marriages suffering from

sober faced husbands and sad faced

wives. I have prayed with hurting

husbands or wives who have gravitated to

a sympathetic friend. This often leads to

transferring of affection, and then

betrayal. If you have problems in your

marriage, never tell them even to your

closest friend. You place them in a

position to hurt you when you need them

most. Lean on Jesus.  He will never share

your hurts with anyone except our

Heavenly Father. I like to see husbands

and wives be best friends and confide

their hurts and needs only to each other.

Some years ago, a lady attended our

church. Her husband was an alcoholic. I

prayed and visited him many times, until

one day he asked Jesus into his heart. We

saw the joy of the Lord change his life.

Later. his wife commented, “Pastor Bob,

you know, I never had a husband the first

ten years of our marriage.” Human love is

not enough to keep a marriage strong.

Only God’s affection and love can do that.

Father, let your love and power be

available to me that your heavenly love

might flow into my marriage.

Amen.

For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.  Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.  Ephesians 5:31-33 KJV
