A Bondservant

I would like to talk to you today about

being a bond servant to Christ. This is

an Old Testament term given to a bought

slave who had grown to love his master.

After his due time of service, he was free

to leave his master’s home with few

possessions and begin a new life. Often

a slave would choose to remain with his

master. He was then given an earring to

show that he was now a slave by choice.

A bondslave.

St. Paul used this term to show his service

of love to our Lord Jesus.  Do not feel

that this is an unattractive picture of

the Christian life. What could be more

precious than our experience with our

savior as a bondservant? Our

relationship with Christ should become

sweeter each day.

A story is told of an African slave who was

to be auctioned on the slave block, when a

buyer whispered to another, “Who is the

young slave that stands head and shoulders,

and looks so proud?” His friend replied, “He

is the son of an African King, and he cannot

forget it.” I have never known a Christian to

be ashamed of serving Christ. His yoke is

easy, and his burden is light. He is not a

cruel taskmaster like Satan, but a loving

Master who only imposes upon us that

which is for our own good, and for His

glory, and the good of others.

Father, thank you that you found such worth

in me, that you would redeem such as I.

Amen.

Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the acknowledgment of the truth which accords with godliness,  Titus 1:1 NKJV
